Accessibility statement

This accessibility statement applies to the BEIS BRE Open Regulation Platform (ORP) Private Beta

This website is run by the Department for Business and Trade Better Regulation Executive (BRE). We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts
  • zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
  • navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

How accessible this website is

We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:

  • the tab order is not logical on all pages
  • a visible focus indicator is not always present when tabbing page content
  • zooming text only to 200% may cause some content to be difficult to read or disappear

Technical information about this website’s accessibility

BEIS is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, the non-compliances are listed below.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

Rendering issues are present with PDF text when zooming text only to 200% using browser zoom controls. This includes overlapping content, content no longer being present, and text being cut-off. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.4.4 (Resize Text).

An illogical focus order has been observed on the ‘Review Document’ page, where the focus moves to the links within the embedded document but focuses on the footer links first. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 2.4.3 (Focus Order).

A visible focus indicator is not always present when tabbing page content. This has been observed on the ‘Search with Results’ page, as there is no focus indicator when tabbing through the results, and the ‘Review Document Details’ when the focus moves to the embedded PDF’s scroll function. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 2.4.7 (Focus Visible).

What we’re doing to improve accessibility

Future phases of the ORP project will rectify the non-accessible content by removing the need for a document viewer while not sacrificing overall accessibility.
